Syracuse Police Department swears in 36 new members

Local News

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Answering the call to serve. A total of 36 men and women were sworn into the Syracuse Police Department on Tuesday.

One last name on the force might look a little familiar.

Devin Duval, 22, is following in his father’s footsteps, who served over 20 years with the department, a few of those as Chief of Police.

“He made sure I knew what I was getting into and I’ll never forget the day I told him that I wanted to do this and he made sure I knew what I was getting into. And he’s given me some great advice since then,” Duval said.

The next step for the new police officers is a 26-week long academy, including training in fitness, firearms, first aid and making sure the new police know the state, federal and local laws impacting the area.
