Syracuse Police make quick arrest following shooting

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Detectives arrested a 22-year-old man after he allegedly shot a woman in her knee on Friday.

Investigators were called to Ashworth Place in the city around 3:30 in the afternoon. The say that a 20-year-old woman got into an argument with Zykhir Derby. During the argument, Derby pulled out a handgun and fired at the woman, hitting her in the left knee.

Derby ran off but was arrested not far from the scene. He's now charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He's being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center. The woman is recovering in the hospital.

The investigation is continuing
