SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Syracuse Vet Center is inviting veterans, active duty service members and their families to an open house to mark the anniversary of D-Day.
They are open until 7 p.m. on Thursday and are welcoming people to come out and pay respects to those lives lost.
The invasion was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history.
“160,000 allied troops invaded the beaches of Normandy and in result, we ended up losing 9,000 lives of the allied forces. So we’re taking a moment to honor their sacrifice and recognize that day,” said Frank Salvadore, Director of the Syracuse Vet Center.
The Syracuse Vet Center is located on Pine Street in Syracuse, near East Washington Street.
