SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — First stop Syracuse, and possibly after a Common Council vote on Monday, the entire state. The city has connected with Verizon to bring in 5G and the new technology could speed up growth in Syracuse.
Verizon is hoping to have 5G throughout New York State by next year, with Syracuse looking to be one of the first places to have it up and running.
That speed could help bring in more business opportunities and allow for technologies we have yet to see in the city to thrive.
“It is essentially a wireless connection similar to what you would have on your phone currently, except that it is much much faster,” said Sam Edelstein, Chief Data Officer for the City of Syracuse.
Units will be placed around most every block to make the 5G work.
The City of Syracuse plans to conceal those units as much as possible.
If the issue passes the common council, Verizon would begin with 5G later this year.
