POMPEY CENTER, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — There were tense moments Thursday afternoon after a girl wound up stuck under a bridge in Limestone Creek and had to be rescued.
This situation happened along Hills Road, just off of Oran Delphi Road in Pompey Center.
Multiple agencies worked together to save the girl.
The Manlius fire chief says she was in the water for 40 minutes, adding that in all his 35 years, he has never seen anything like it. He called it incredible and says it’s because of a Cazenovia diver that she was pulled to safety.
“This is what the brotherhood is about. This is what the fire service is about. We took a scenario you can’t train for and we all put our heads together and everybody did a great job,” Manlius Fire Chief Brad Pinksy said. “This was not our day. It was God’s day. Again, I’ve never seen anything like this.”
The chief also says when they pulled the girl out of the water, she was responsive and sitting up, which he was not expecting after the amount of time she was in the cold water.
