SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Great New York State Fair opens in just two weeks, but preparations for the 51st Annual Butter Sculpture are underway as 800 pounds of butter has made its way to the Dairy Products Building.
The butter came from O-AT-KA Milk Products in Western New York.
Sculptors Jim Victor and Marie Pelton will begin work this week, marking the 17th consecutive year they have sculpted the buttery masterpiece. American Dairy Association North East will unveil the Butter Sculpture, sponsored by Wegmans, on August 20th, one day before the Fair formally opens.
Following the 13-day run of the Fair, the sculpture will be deconstructed and transported to a local dairy farm where it will be recycled in a methane digester to create electricity.
