SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) – It’s about to get more expensive to park in Syracuse.
The city plans to increase the hourly rate on parking meters from $1.25 to $2.00.
Councilor-At-Large Timothy Rudd, who is in charge of the finance committee, says the 60% hike will help provide additional revenue to the city.
In April, Mayor Ben Walsh proposed raising property taxes beyond the state tax cap, but the Council chose to increase taxes slightly and use the parking increase to offset the difference.
Parking rates in Buffalo and Rochester are also $2.00.
The Common Council is expected to approve the increase on Monday. If that happens, it is scheduled to take effect on September 1.
