The 2019 fall foliage season has officially started, bringing colorful leaves across New York.

Empire State Development is keeping New Yorkers updated with changes in the leaves with its weekly fall foliage report, found here. You’ll find a detailed map showing fall color progress, as well as suggested vantage points to enjoy the views.

They’ve also started the #NYLovesFall social media campaign, encouraging New Yorkers to post their favorites photos from the season! Fan photos will be chosen each Friday and shared to the I LOVE NY Instagram account. In order to qualify, you must tag the photo with the location where it was taken and use the hashtag #NYLovesFall. You can always post to the NewsChannel 9 Facebook page to be considered for our Picture of the Day.

“Breathtaking foliage is just the beginning of an amazing New York State fall getaway. ‎When paired with an afternoon sampling the harvest along a craft beverage trail, exploring one of our world class museums and finding outdoor adventure hiking, biking or paddling, there really is no better way to experience fall. We invite everyone to come and make memories this autumn on a New York State escape.”

Ross D. Levi, New York State Executive Director of Tourism

The fall foliage report is created from a team of around 65 volunteer “Leaf Peepers,” located throughout the state’s 11 vacation regions. Their job is to track the weekly foliage changes. If you would like to volunteer, you can email foliage@esd.ny.gov for more information.
