CENTRAL NEW YORK (WSYR-TV) — Several of CNY’s largest high schools are sending their seniors off tonight in style.
Cicero-North Syracuse High School had one ceremony at the high school on the field on Friday. About 600 seniors graduated. Students there say were happy to be able to do this together. “I’m ecstatic, I’m very excited. I’m extremely excited for graduation, everybody has been putting in a ton of hard work and we’re happy that’s it just finally over,” said Jared Gilbert.
His best friend, Aidan Murray, said he’s happy to be at graduation with his friends, but the events that lead up to it were hard. “It was pretty difficult especially in the beginning of the year because usually the thing that helps you get through school is the friendships and the connections you can make and we didn’t really have a lot of that at the beginning of the year.”
Canastota Central School District held their commencement ceremony for their seniors at the Boxing Hall of Fame on Friday night. About 90 seniors walked across the stage at that venue. The President of the Board of Education, Bill Haddad said having the whole class of 2021 together was a big accomplishment. There’s a reason I’m smiling because we are here. It was very difficult last year where we had no parents at all at the graduation and they all had to watch it online, this year we have our parents here, we have our faculty here.”
