SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Next Wednesday is National Running Day and with our warm weather, plenty of people are already hitting the pavement.
Before you head out the door, here are some safety tips you should keep in mind:
- Tell someone when and where you’re going and how long you’ll be
- Wear reflective clothing or running lights that clip onto your clothes or wrist
- Wear alarms that clip onto your clothes in case of an emergency
- Pay attention to your surroundings
“Make sure if you’re on the road, you go against traffic, you never wanna run with traffic because then you can’t see what’s coming,” said Michele Maciejewski, Head Distance Running Coach at Fleet Feet Syracuse. “If there’s a sidewalk available or even better yet, trails that are off road, those are gonna be even safer.”
If you run with pets, make sure you don’t forget about their safety! There are reflective collars and vests for them, too.
One more reminder: stay hydrated!
