When you think of the greatest love stories of our time, you might think princess or star-crossed lovers, but some of the best love stories have more humble beginnings.

Aaron Deloria and Shiloh Wood started dating April 2, 2011.
“I had pretty low self-esteem at the time, so I didn’t really think she was interested in me at all,” said Deloria. “She’s my biggest fan. I really love that about her; I had just never had anyone take an interest in me like she has.”

They dated through high school and decided to go to Cazenovia College together. He studied journalism and she studied human services. She graduated valedictorian, he was right behind her as salutatorian. The pair was separated by less than one one-hundredth of a point. They celebrated their success with a trip to Italy.

“I’m thinking in my head ‘Italy’s perfect, he should propose.’ But I didn’t want to get my hopes up and have the trip ruined if he didn’t,” said Wood.

Little did she know he had the ring in his pocket for days. He chose to propose in Sirmione, right by the water.

“He was really sweet, he said that he loved me and that he really wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and asked me to marry him. I was very taken aback and it was just so beautiful,” said Wood.

Now that the two have graduated, Aaron is studying at Newhouse and Shiloh will work at Cazenovia College. The two say they’re waiting a bit before they decide on a wedding date.
