A varsity baseball coach in Northern New York is facing charges after allegedly causing a student to lose consciousness by putting him in a choke hold.
State Police say 46-year-old Lloyd Kevin Smith was performing mixed martial arts-style maneuvers on a 16-year-old at Indian River High School.
One of the demonstrations was a choke-hold type of maneuver, which State Police say caused the teen to become unconscious. He fell to the ground and struck his head on a glass and metal door.
Smith was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
He is set to return to the Town of Philadelphia Court on April 12.
