FULTON, N.Y. – State Police in Fulton said a Liverpool man was taken to Upstate University Hospital Saturday after his car rolled-over on County Route 57 in the Town of Schroeppel.
The crash happened around 2:53 a.m. just north of Bankrupt Road in the Town of Fulton.
The investigation is ongoing but State Police believe the driver was texting before he hit a culvert, went airborne, and flipped over.
State Police, the Oswego County Sheriff’s Deputies, and firefighters from the Phoenix and Fulton Fire Departments all responded to the scene.
A Phoenix firefighter said he the first to arrive at the scene. He described that the car was on fire near the driver’s seat and he and a bystander pulled the driver from the vehicle while using a fire extinguisher to keep the flames at bay.
Firefighters used a winch system to flip the car right-side up shortly after a NewsChannel 9 photographer arrived around 3:50 a.m.
Menter Ambulance brought the man to Upstate University Hospital for injuries to his leg. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
State Police in Fulton said they are continuing their investigation.
