Two prisons closing, but Cayuga County prisons spared

Local News

NEW YORK STATE (WSYR-TV) — Both Cayuga County correctional facilities are safe after a pair of New York prisons will be shut down.

The State Department of Corrections and Supervision says they are shutting down the prisons because of a decline in the inmate population and a low crime rate.

Out of a review of the 54 state facilities, the Lincoln Correctional Facility in Manhattan and Livingston Correctional Facility in Western New York were chosen as the pair to close.
