Local News

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Crews were able to knock down a house fire on Mountainview Avenue near Le Moyne College on Friday night.

Firefighters were called there just after 6:30 p.m. When they got there they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the one-story wood-framed home, in particular, the rear walk-out basement.

Crews from Station 17 and Truck Company 5  initiated aggressive operations to control the fire and search for potential victims in the home.

Fire crews did locate a dog in the basement, but despite efforts to revive the animal, it did not survive. No other occupants were in the home at the time of the fire.

After about 25 minutes crews extinguished the fire, but firefighters remained on scene to conduct overhaul operations.

The fire investigator has determined the fire originated in the basement and the cause is still under investigation.  There were no injuries reported in this incident.
