Oneida County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a deadly one-car crash that happened along State Route 26 in the town of Ava early Sunday morning.

According to Sheriff, Robert M. Maciol, deputies arrived on scene at approximately 3 a.m. to investigate the cause of the crash. They say a 2016 Toyota Corolla crossed the Southbound lanes of Rt. 26 and hit a tree.

Maciol says there were two occupants inside the car. 23 year old Miles Wilson-King was driving with a female passenger whose name has not been released. Both were with the United States Army, stationed at Fort Drum. 

The female passenger was transported from the scene of the accident to Rome Memorial Hospital where she later died. 

Deputies tell NewsChannel 9 that both people were wearing their seatbelts and the airbags did deploy.

The accident was investigated by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol, Forensic Identification Unit, Criminal Investigation Unit and Accident Reconstruction Unit.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash.
