Doctors at Strong Memorial Hospital say that New York State Trooper Craig Foglia is showing signs of improvement after sustaining serious injuries in an accident on I-86 in Steuben County.
Trooper Foglia’s breathing tube has been removed and his condition has been upgraded to guarded. He remains in the Intensive Care Unit at Strong.
Police say Trooper Foglia had conducted a traffic stop in Campbell around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, and was sitting in his vehicle when he was struck from behind by a Ford F-150 driven by Kenneth Aukett of Westmont, NJ.
Trooper Foglia’s patrol car then struck the vehicle which he had stopped. Trooper Foglia sustained severe injuries and was subsequently airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital.
Aukett was transported to Robert Packard Hospital in Sayre, PA with non-life threatening injuries.
The accident remains under investigation by the Troop E Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Uniform personnel.
