U.S. Postal Services hiring 140 holiday positions

WSYR-TV - It may be a little early for some of us to think about the holidays, but the United States Postal Service wants you to consider earning extra cash this Christmas.

During the holidays, more mail means more hands-- 140 holiday jobs will put people to work from Nov. 13 through Jan 4.

"For those that have been out of work for a while, this can be a good fresh start for them. We train from within so not a lot of skills needed initially,” said Eric Dolloff, plant manager at the Syracuse processing and distribution plant.

The $18 an hour pay alone may have you considering to fill out an application, but you're probably worried about carrying mail in the rain and the snow.

The good news is, all of these jobs will keep you inside.

One thing you'll need to remember is you will have to be available to work nights and weekends.

"They load trucks, unload trucks, run equipment, they'll sort large packages by hand and sort into a manual pouch rack operation of or the smaller parcels. It's a lot of moving the mail to the mailbox. It's how it gets to the carriers,” Dolloff said.

With work ranging week to week, holiday workers could snag 60 hours and clock some overtime.

All applicants must be 18 or older, be a U.S. citizen and pass a criminal background check and drug screening.

You can still apply online here.
