Vigil held at Syracuse University to honor victims of New Zealand terrorist attack

Local News

The Syracuse University campus community is invited to gather at Hendricks Chapel Tuesday night to hold a candlelight vigil, honoring the lives lost in the terrorist attack at two mosques in New Zealand last week.

The event, planned by the staff of Hendricks Chapel and the Muslim Student Association, is billed as an opportunity to bring the comunity together and pray for peace. It starts at 6 p.m. on the steps of Hendricks Chapel.

The University says resources are available for students, faculty and staff affected by the attack:

  • Students seeking counseling services can contact the Counseling Center 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at (315) 443-4715. Additional services are provided by the Office of Student Assistance, Monday through Friday, by calling (315) 443-4357.
  • For faculty and staff, assistance is available through Carebridge, the University’s Faculty and Staff Assistance Program. Trained clinicians are available by phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and can be reached at (800) 437-0911.
  • The Muslim Chaplaincy and Muslim Chaplain Amir Duric can be reached at (856) 266-8625 or aduric@syr.edu.
  • For additional support and services, the campus community can contact Hendricks Chapel at (315) 443-2901.
