Every year, Nathan’s Famous holds the New York qualifier for the annual Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Contest.
This year, on Saturday, winner Geoffrey Esper ate 45 hot dogs and buns to break the Nathan’s Syracuse record.
Competitors have 10 minutes to eat as many hot dogs as they can.
Although Esper won, he says he expected have eaten more.
“Actually I was hoping for a little bit better, a better number than that. The dogs were a little slower today than I thought they were going to be” Esper said.
Esper says he is competing in a Strawberry Shortcake eating contest June 3 in Long Island.
