A Lyons woman is facing arson charges after sheriff’s deputies say she accidentally caught a mattress on fire while trying to kill a bed bug with a lighter.

Jacquline Lynch, 39, is now charged with arson in the 4th Degree.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to Canal View Drive in Lyons around 10:30am on Monday.

Investigators say Lynch recklessly used a lighter to attempt to kill a bed bug after her uncle sprayed the house with alcohol. Lynch caught a mattress on fire inside the apartment and subsequently initiated the sprinkler system.

The fire caused damage inside the apartment and water damage to multiple other apartments. Lynch was issued an appearance ticket and released. Lynch is to appear before the Town of Lyons Court at a later date.
