A 45-year-old man is in the hospital after a wrong way along I-81 south in Syracuse early Saturday morning.

Syracuse police say the driver of the car entered the highway at an unknown location and proceeded northbound in the southbound lane.

The car and a delivery truck collided head on.   The driver of the delivery truck called 911 and told dispatchers that the driver of the car was unresponsive.

The driver of the car was pulled from his vehicle by rescue workers from the Syracuse Fire Department and taken to Upstate University Hospital.  He suffered fractures to his lower leg, pelvis and collarbone.

Officers were able to interview the driver at the hospital, but he could not provide details of the crash.

He was ticketed for reckless driving, failure to obey traffic control, failure to keep right and driving the wrong way on a one way road.  Police have not released the name of the driver.
