CICERO, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Midstate Youth Hockey Association is dropping the long-time Cicero Twin Rinks name and doing so with a family-friendly celebration on Oct. 5
The new name — Midstate Athletic Community Center — aims to reflect the facility and organization’s regional outreach.
The center is located on Meltzer Court, off Route 11.
Ahead of the Oct. 5 celebration — Centerstate CEO representatives will be at the center on Aug. 6 to take part in a ribbon cutting for the venue’s new name.
The youth hockey non-profit organization has owned the facility since 2012.
The center has activities room for children, pickleball and other programs for members as young as eight-weeks-old up to seniors.
The facility also has a bar and lounge just off the two rinks which board members hope will soon score additional funds.
In a July interview with NewsChannel 9, members of the Midstate Youth Hockey Association board said the renaming event is part of a new vision and fundraising plan.
“We need sponsors for both these rinks. You can get your name on an Olympic size rink. You can get your name on an NHL size rink. We need sponsors for the boards. We need sponsors for the activities,” said Rob Bick, a board of director with Midstate Youth Hockey Association. “They have never pursued that. It’s a great opportunity. There are 800,000 people who come into this facility every year.”
The event to celebrate the renaming of the center has been rescheduled for Oct. 5 after an August event was planned.
More details about the Oct. 5 event will be released soon. Families from across Central New York are welcome.
