NORTH SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Both the incoming and outgoing chairmen of the State GOP were in Central New York Thursday.

Nick Langworthy and Ed Cox attended the annual Onondaga County GOP Clambake at Spinning Wheel in North Syracuse.

Langworthy, the Erie County GOP chair, will be formally elected to the new state-level role on Monday.

“We need to rebuild, retool and revitalize the Republican Party across the state of New York. Especially following the results of the 2018 midterm elections. I mean, they were very difficult ones for Republicans, you know, we have to make a comeback in this state,” Langworthy tells NewsChannel 9.

He’s taking over for longtime chair Ed Cox, who is stepping down after Langworthy challenged him for the job.
