An 18-year-old mother reported missing out of Wayne County last week has been found dead, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
On Wednesday, a medical examiner, Sheriff’s K-9 and the DEC were seen at a farm where 18-year-old Selena Hidalgo-Calderon worked. She was last seen at work on May 16.
A decomposed body was found in a bag on the farm along Joy Road on Wednesday.
The Sheriff’s Office announced that the medical examiner had positively identified the body as that of Hidalgo-Calderon.
“My daughter and my grandson were my life, she was my first born and I feel like a piece of my heart is gone,”
said Estela Calderon, mother of Selena Hidalgo Calderon
She was reported missing with her 1-year-old son, Owen.
The child has not yet been found.
Owen did not show up for daycare on May 17– three days before the missing persons call was put out for the mother and son.
Deputies say her 25-year-old boyfriend, Everado Reyes, “found her dead body, removed her from her home and buried her.”
He has been charged with tampering with evidence.
Trail cameras provided by a neighbor show Reyes walking in and out of the woods for five hours with a shovel.
Deputies say he did not admit to killing Selena Hidalgo-Calderon. He did not make mention of Owen.
On Friday nearly 100 people will be out looking for Owen.
Deputies say the effort to find Owen is looking more like a recovery rather than a search.
