UPDATE: Fire badly damages home in Lyncourt

WSYR-TV - Onondaga County fire investigators are looking into the cause of a house fire along the 100 block of Hamden Drive, near Court Street in Lyncourt.

The fire was discovered by an Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputy who was patrolling the Lyncourt neighborhood.   She noticed the flames coming from the second story on the house and she immediately called 911.

The deputy then yelled and pounded on the door and windows of the home but received no response from inside the home.   A dog could be heard barking, at which time, the deputy forced her way through the front door, but she was unable to enter the home because of the smoke and flames.

As firefighters arrived on the scene, the homeowner also arrived and confirm that only the family dog was inside.  Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the second floor of the home.  Deputies says the dog died.

Investigators do not believe the cause of the fire is criminal in nature.

Several fire crews were called Saturday evening to a Lyncourt home as flames filled the second floor.

It happened around 7:45p.m. on Hamden Drive between Roxford Road North & Medford Road.

When a NewsChannel 9 photographer arrived at the scene they were told by a fire official that the fire started on the second floor and that no one was hurt.

Investigators are still trying to determine exactly what cause the fire to start.
