GEDDES, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The day before the Great New York State Fair opens to everyone, the Fair Director showed NewsChannel 9 around to see what’s new.
Inside the Dairy Products Building, not far from NewsChannel 9’s broadcast center, people craving something sweet will find the Cotton Candy Burrito. It’s a cotton candy wrapping around the ice cream and toppings of your choice.
The smallest State Park in New York is inside the New York State Fairgrounds. In the water of the park’s pond, paddleboards are ready to go. Instead of the mat, the boards will host yoga on weekends.
Adventurous eaters always check out the Fried Specialties’ annual specialty item. This year, Jim Hasbrouk has created a “Sudden Death Burger,” two burgers stuffed with macaroni and cheese, pork belly and jalapenos, wrapped in a basket of bacon strips and deep-fried. Don’t forget the side of cheese sauce.
Last year’s ice rink in the Expo Center has long melted, but grass has grown in its place. Actually, it’s turf. The Fair is hosting soccer, bocce, kickball and open lawn games.
