GEDDES, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Many people will be walking through the gates at the New York State Fair in just a few hours, but there is a big change for those who take the Centro Park-N-Ride bus. They’ve moved the drop-off to the opposite side of the fair this ear simply for safety reason. The old lot was only a little more than one acre, but the new lot is nearly five acres larger, which should help with traffic.
A lot of viewers have been calling in and emailing, confused about the changes, so here’s the deal. You’ll now be dropped off at Gate 10, which is the Grey Lot. It is on the opposite side of what people are used to, but there will be several trams making stops across the Fairgrounds, and an express tram going straight to Gate 12, which will bring you right near Chevy Court.
Gate 10 is also right next to the Beef Barn and near the Expo Center, so the fair director says a bonus to the switch is giving people more exposure to what they normally don’t walk past. However, the major reason for the change is to make this a safer experience for everyone.
“Over the last few years, it’s become a safety issue. It looks like two colliding football teams with people getting off the buses, people trying to get on the buses. They can’t see the signage, it’s not big enough to hold everybody,” Fair Director Troy Waffner said.
There are three pickup spots for the Park-N-Ride buses: Shoppingtown Mall, Farrell Road, or Destiny USA.
