NewsChannel 9 has scheduled a televised debate among the three candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for Congress in the 24th District.
The campaigns of Steve Williams, Colleen Deacon and Eric Kingson have agreed to take part in the televised debate on NewsChannel 9 just 72 hours before registered Democrats go to the polls on primary day, June 28.
None of the three has ever held elective office.
Deacon is the former aide to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who has now received the backing of the Democratic Congressional Campaign committee.
Williams is a local attorney and navy veteran.
Kingson is a Syracuse University professor and author.
All three have already made joint appearances at several forums throughout the 24th District, which includes all of Onondaga, Cayuga, and Wayne counties, and roughly the western half of Oswego County, including the cities of Fulton and Oswego.
The debate will air on NewsChannel 9 at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 25.
NewsChannel 9’s Dan Cummings will moderate the debate and will be assisted in questioning the candidates by Tim Byrnes, the Chair of political science at Colgate University.
The winner of the June 28 primary earns the right to challenge first-term incumbent Republican John Katko in November.
