A 42-year-old nurse aide will serve jail time for punching an 87-year-old nursing-home resident in the face, causing several fractures.
Sonya King has pleaded guilty to second-degree endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person or an incompetent of physically disabled person.
She admitted to the incident on Jan. 23, according to the Attorney General’s office.
The Utica resident had worked at Focus Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for one and a half years.
She will spend four months behind bars and then five years on probation.
“Nursing home residents and their loved ones deserve the peace of mind of knowing that residents will receive the best care possible, and will be treated with the utmost respect. To physically assault an elderly resident is utterly reprehensible. This sentence sends the message that nursing home staffers who endanger the welfare of those in their care will be held accountable,” Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said.
