Onondaga County is just one key vote away from making it illegal for anyone under 21 to buy tobacco products.
The measure to up the age from 19 years old to 21 passed the legislature’s Health Committee on Monday and is headed for a full vote of lawmakers.
The measure would also prohibit sales of herbal cigarettes and e-cigarettes to those under 21.
The full legislature will be asked to vote on the proposed law at its next meeting on Dec. 5.
Other counties including Cortland and Tompkins, already require you to be 21 or older to buy tobacco products.
