A 52-year-old Rome woman is facing charges after she allegedly lied to police, telling them a man had stolen her money and drugs, in order to prompt her doctor to give her more drugs.
On March 31, Malissa Allen of Schuyler Street reported the robbery, which she said occurred outside of a pharmacy on Black River Road.
Allen told police that the suspect stole her cash, opiates, and other prescription medications.
Police say they conducted an extensive investigation, and determined that Allen and others were using the phony robbery as a ruse.
Allen allegedly hoped to tell her doctor that her drugs had been stolen in order to receive a replacement prescription.
She was charged with falsely reporting an incident, a class A misdemeanor.
Allen is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court on April 17.
Police say additional charges are possible.
