First democratic debate held in Miami; second scheduled for Thursday night

Politics

MIAMI, Fla. (WSYR-TV) — In the first democratic debate hosted by NB, the candidates were asked to name the greatest geopolitical threat. Answers included China, Russia and climate change, but the one that got the most applause was the answer of “Donald Trump.”

Not always mentioning him by name, the candidates took on President Trump’s economy and his take in immigration.

Over the two hours, they tried to distinguish themselves from one another. They disagreed on healthcare and whether private insurance should be eliminated in favor of Medicare for all.

They also sparred on foreign policy.

On Thursday night, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders will take the center stage, joined by Pete Buttigieg, Kamala Harris, Michael Bennet, Kirsten Gillibrand, John Hickenlooper and Eric Swalwell. The Thursday debate will also feature two non-politicians: Author Marianne Williamson and entrepreneur Andrew Yang.

It’ll be interesting to see how much the candidates on Thursday night differ from those on Wednesday night.
