A bat at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo tested positive for rabies, the state Health Department reported Thursday morning.
The Health Department is asking residents who may have come into direct contact with a bat on the grounds of the Zoo between Sunday, Feb. 7 and Monday, Feb. 8 to contact the Onondaga County Health Department’s Bureau of Disease Control at (315) 435-3236.
“This finding serves as an important reminder to residents that rabies exposure can happen any time of the year. To protect yourself against rabies, do not feed, touch or adopt wild animals,” Dr. Indu Gupta, Onondaga County Health Commissioner sai.d
