Skaneateles schools shutting down drinking fountains

News

The Skaneateles Central School District announced on Wednesday that it will shut down drinking fountains in district buildings, one day after New York State confirmed an increased concentration of toxins in the drinking water.

The toxins entered the water through a blue-green algae bloom in Skaneateles Lake – which provides drinking water to a number of Central New York municipalities, including the village.

The state says the level of toxins remains within acceptable limits.

With test results from the Health Department pending, however, the district says it will shut down the fountains until it has received definitive results.
