SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Syracuse looks like it has filled another slot on its non-conference schedule for the upcoming college basketball season.
A source with scheduling knowledge tells sports director Steve Infanti that a game between SU and Niagara is in the process of being finalized. The Purple Eagles would travel to the Dome on Dec. 28.
This would be a homecoming for two members of the Niagara coaching staff.
Pat Beilein spent the first nine years of his life in Syracuse with his father, John, serving as the head coach at Le Moyne (1983-’92). Pat returned to town four years ago to take over the Dolphins basketball program in 2015.
He led Le Moyne to three division titles in his four years before accepting the head coaching job at Niagara back in March.
Beilein recently added Greg Paulus to his staff. Greg has a high school star in basketball and football at Christian Brothers Academy, being named Gatorade’s national high school player of the year in 2005. After playing four years of basketball at Duke, Greg joined the Orange football team for one season as a grad transfer.
Niagara went 13-19 last season, winning just six of its 18 conference games in the MAAC.
Syracuse finished the season 20-14 following a first-round exit to Baylor in the NCAA Tournament.
