Syracuse fire crews respond to fire on East Water Street

Syracuse fire crews are at the scene of a fire in a vacant building on South Townsend Street on Wednesday morning.

According to the Onondaga County 911 website, the fire at a building between East Water and East Washington streets was reported around 9:16 a.m.

The roadway was closed while crews fought the fire.

Dispatchers said they believed the fire was under control around shortly after 10 a.m.

An official at the scene told a NewsChannel 9 photographer that the fire originated in the second floor and extended to the third.

He also said firefighters were challenged by holes in the floor.
