The secret of love as told by two generations of couples

There’s no magic formula when it comes to making a marriage work,  but advice from others can’t hurt, right?

NewsChannel 9’s Jennifer Sanders sat down with two couples from different generations to see what they say is “the secret of love.”

Arnold and Lauren Malloy have been married for five years. In that time — they’ve had two children and moved three different places, all while settling into their careers.

“We call ourselves college sweethearts we met in undergrad met in math class,” said Lauren Malloy.

At that time, from the friendship standpoint, she gave me the confidence and I knew what type of woman she was I thought she was the one at that point,” said Arnold Malloy.

“Every couple has their own equation that makes their marriage work. For us, I would say constant communication and constant communication with God. I pray for my family over my family and we talk about things together and we set goals together,” Lauren said.

A good example doesn’t hurt either. Lauren’s parents, Eva and Lawrence Williams, have been married for 32 years.

“We started as a wonderful friendship, and 32 years later, she is still my best friend,” Lawrence Williams said.

Within the first year, they knew it would be forever— but there were some hurdles they had to overcome.

“We had to overcome our cultural differences I’m African, true African, so we came together as an African American couple only to figure out we had to find the balance of our two cultures to make it work,” Eva said.

They say keep in sight what brings you together— your common values and things that make your life special that brought you together in the first place.
