A man was arrested for threatening to kill a Utica Police officer with a knife during a welfare check on Route 5 around 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

Michael Wickham, 41, of Utica, was reported to be acting “erratically” while walking on the side of the road.

When the officer checked on him, Wickham pulled out a knife and threatened the officer. The officer then had to use his taser to subdue Wickham and take him into custody.

New Hartford Police charged Wickham with menacing a police officer and criminal possesion. He was arraigned in the Oneida County Court and remanded to Oneida County jail in lieu of $10k cash bail.
