A slight delay but not a cancelation!

The Utica St.Patrick’s Day Parade has been rescheduled for Saturday March 25,2017.

The announcement for weekend festivities being canceled was made on Thursday.
Event organizers felt being exposed to weather below freezing for the parade’s entirety could be life threatening.

While some in the community are upset with the push back, organizers say it could be a blessing in disguise, including this years Grand Marshall Vaughn Lang.

“I’m going to be the longest serving Grand Marshall this is great! I thought it was up tomorrow, I have another two weeks the Irish flag is going to fly another two weeks, two weeks more of celebrations. I think it should go on further up until Easter.” Lang said.

“It’ll actually be better. We will have extra time planning and we will definitely work to make it better and safer.  We were all in agreement that March 25th would be the ideal time to reorganize and put on a very high quality parade.” Utica Fire Chief Russell Brooks said.

The traditional painting of the green line down Genesee Street is scheduled for March 24,2017.
