CLAY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) It was a scary sight to see for a neighbor in the Town of Clay.
A NewsChannel 9 viewer shared a home surveillance video taken early in the morning on Marlin Drive. It shows multiple people working as a team to try and get into cars. Even motion light detectors don’t deter or scare them off. Onondaga County Sheriff’s Detectives say a wallet was stolen from a car on Candela Lane and money was taken from a vehicle on Fortuna Parkway.
Deputies refer to these incidents as crimes of opportunity and by simply locking your vehicles and removing all valuables, you greatly reduce your chances of being victimized.
The Sheriff’s Office recommends that residents safeguard their vehicles by:
-Always locking their vehicle, even when parked in the driveway or garage.
-Never leave or hide a smart key, valet key, or spare key anywhere in or on your vehicle, no matter where you park it.
-Never leave valuables in the vehicle.
-If possible, park the vehicle in a locked garage.
-Keep the exterior of homes and driveways well illuminated.
-Close all vehicle windows completely when parked.
-Also, secure the garage door opener to prevent access to the house.
