National Grid scam going around: Your Stories

Your Stories

CICERO, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Michelle in Cicero contacted the Your Stories Answer Desk because she got a suspicious call from National Grid offering up a 25% discount on bills. She wanted to know if this was a scam.

This does sound like a scam that National Grid is warning customers about.

Summertime is the hottest season for scammers, so National Grid has this advice. They say to verify a call, call National Grid back only using the phone number listed on one of your current bills. If the number that called you is different, it’s likely a scam. Trust yourself. If you believe you’re up to date on payments, it is likely a scan.

National Grid will always know your account number, so never give out this information over the phone.
