Syracuse Police to crack down on drag racing near Erie Boulevard

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – The Syracuse Police Department says starting this weekend, it will really look to put the brakes on street racing.

NewsChannel 9 has received several calls to the Your Stories line about drag racing near Erie Boulevard, Midler Avenue and Seeley Road.

The Syracuse Police Department says it will be strictly enforcing vehicle and traffic law violation that happen in that area on Friday and Saturday nights.

Violations include but not limited to speeding, contest racing, reckless driving, equipment violations and driving while intoxicated. NewsChannel 9 obtained video from the night of June 7 showing how big of a problem that area has become. Dozens of cars gathered at a gas station. A Syracuse Police vehicle was on scene that night. Syracuse Police say tickets have been issued in that location.
