Those on government assistance will be charged for paper bags: Your Stories

Your Stories

NEW YORK STATE (WSYR-TV) — We’ve had emails and calls asking if people who pay with groceries with government assistance, like food stamps, will be charged five cents per paper bag at Wegmans once plastic bags have been eliminated?

A Wegman’s spokesperson says at this time, yes. and there are no plans for a reusable bag giveaway at this time. But the spokesperson reminds us only the Ithaca and Corning stores have already dumped plastic bags, as a pilot. The company will see how things go in these stores before implementing it statewide.
