SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — After missing its first seven shots from the field and digging an early 9-1 hole, the SU men’s basketball team finally got its offense going and cruised past Colgate 70-54 inside the Carrier Dome.
Buddy Boeheim led the Orange with 17 points. Elijah Hughes was next in line with 14 points and eight assists. Bourama Sidibe was the only other player in double figures for Syracuse. The junior center finished with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Freshman Joe Girard III provided a spark again off the bench. Girard scored five points and dished out four assists, but once again did a nice job running the point. So much so that Girard started the second half in place of Jalen Carey who had one point and two turnovers in just five minutes of action.
Colgate made 13 three-pointers as a team, but the Orange held the Raiders to just 31.7% shooting from behind the arc. They also made things difficult on Patriot League Player of the Year Rapolas Ivanauskas. Colgate’s star player was held to five points on 2-for-10 shooting from the field.
This is SU’s 54th straight win over the Raiders. Next up for Syracuse will be a visit from the Seattle Redhawks on Saturday. Colgate visits Auburn on Monday.
