Syracuse drops season-opener to #11Virginia

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) –

It was a rough season-opener for Jim Boeheim and the Syracuse men’s basketball team. SU struggled all night long against the defending National Champs, falling 48-34 to #11Virginia.

Syracuse led only once in the game (2-0) as UVA raced out to a 25-19 lead at the half. The Cavaliers would hold SU to just 15 points in the second half.

The 34 points scored is the lowest ever by a Syracuse team at the Carrier Dome.

Elijah Hughes led SU with 14 points. He was the only Orange player to score in double figures.

#11Virginia was led by Mamadi Diakite. Diakite poured in 12 points and six rebounds. Jay Huff added 11 points, and Kihei Clark chipped 10 points and seven assists.
