SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Jake Packard will not be returning this season. The red-shirt senior defensive end has been medically disqualified due to injury. He’s been dealing with knee issues through his career.
Pickard has appeared in just one game since the end of the 2016 season.
Meanwhile, the rest of his teammates moved on to the next stage of preseason camp. On Wednesday, the Orange practiced in full pads for the first time.
Coach Dino Babers showed up to practice with his arm in a sling. He has shoulder surgery on Tuesday, but says he feels good.
As for the team, all in all, Babers is pleased with how the first week has gone thus far, but like any coach, he’s quick to point out that there is plenty of work still to be done and right now, it starts with the fundamentals.
“If we are going to be a good football team, we have to get past those small mistakes, so we can coach the bigger things. They are like, all you can’t be any good, so you have to pay attention to the little things. We give great attention, deadly attention to the little things. It is early. We are still in our first week and I’m antsy to get done with some of those little things with our veteran players so that we can get to the bigger things,” Babers said,
