SU opens season with victory over Western Michigan

Syracuse University opened the 2018 college football season with a wild 55-42 win over Western Michigan Friday night.

For the first time since 2010, the Orange opened the season on the road.

SU jumped out to a 34-7 halftime lead. But the Orange struggled in the second half en route to the victory.

The offensive explosion was led by quarterback Eric Dungey and wide receiver Jamal Custis. Dungey combined for 384 yards of total offense (184 passing, 200 rushing) and three scores. Custis had 6 catches for 168 yards and two touchdowns.

As a team, SU racked up 560 yards of total offense in the win over WMU.

Syracuse improves to 1-0.

The home opener is Saturday September 8th  when the Orange face Wagner at 3:30 p.m. at the Carrier Dome.
