Syracuse University and head women’s basketball coach Quentin Hillsman have agreed to a long-term contract extension that will keep Hillsman on the Orange sidelines through 2024.

“I am very grateful for the confidence and commitment Chancellor Syverud and John Wildhack have entrusted in me and my staff to lead this program,” Hillsman said. “I am very fortunate and appreciative of this opportunity.”

During Hillsman’s 12 years leading the Syracuse program, the Orange has reached postseason competition 11 times, including seven NCAA Tournaments and the 2016 National Championship game. The program has achieved a perfect single-year APR score six times and a GSR of more than 90% during Hillsman’s tenure.

“Coach Hillsman has developed our program into a national contender during his 12 years here,” said Director of Athletics John Wildhack. “This long-term contract extension and commitment provides continuity that is essential to achieve the goals we have for our women’s basketball program. We look forward having Coach Q here to continue to leading the team and our student-athletes to even greater success on the court and in the classroom.”

Hillsman has coached 13 all-conference selections, four All-Americans and four WNBA draft picks. The Orange have won at least 20 games in 10 of his 12 seasons at Syracuse. Prior to his arrival there had only been two 20-win seasons in program history. His teams are nearly unbeatable inside the Carrier Dome, amassing an 87-4 record against non-conference opponents during his reign and a 143-41 record overall in the Dome during his tenure. He holds a 263-136 record as Syracuse’s head coach and helped the Orange to their sixth-consecutive NCAA Tournament this past season.

Hillsman signed a top-10 recruiting class for 2018 which includes McDonald’s All-American and New York State Gatorade Player of the Year Emily Engstler. Syracuse returns all five starters that, as a unit, started in all 31 games and made up 81.4 percent of the team’s scoring in 2017-18. Syracuse also returns 95.6 percent of its offense from last year.
