SU women’s basketball player Tiana Mangakahia diagnosed with breast cancer

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Syracuse University women’s basketball player Tiana Mangakahia announced on Monday that she has breast cancer. 

Mangakahia, 24, a native of Australia, has been diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer and will begin chemotherapy on Friday, and also have surgery after treatment.

In her statement, Mangakahia said:

“I know this will be tough, but I will get through it. This is just the beginning for me and I will come out stronger. I have much more to accomplish and I hope to inspire others to overcome their own adversity just like I know I will.”
